Simply festivals are the celebration of life, but in India it reflects the rich culture and heritage of the country. Indian festivals depend on the various factors. Some festivals are celebrated for the arrival of new season or the harvest or the rains or the full moon. Other festivals welcome either the birthday of mythical heroes, deities and goddesses. There are many festivals celebrated all over India with different names, customs and rituals- folk dance, seeking blessings, exchanging goodwill, decorating houses, wearing new attires, music and feasting.
In India, festival varies according to the religion and geographical boundaries. For example, Durga puja or Navratri is celebrated especially in Bengal as compare to the other parts of India. In the same way Holi is enjoyed with full fervor in the northern part of India though it is partially celebrated in Western and Eastern part of India but in south India none celebrates this festival. There are many festivals which are specified to the particular state for instance Onam in Kerla, Bihu in Assam, Baisakhi in Punjab and other festivals are devoted to the specified god or temple or the limited area. But Diwali is the only which is celebrated in mostly all parts of India. Apart from these festivals Id, Christmas, Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated over India.
