| The
kumaon Hills have been long known for their idyllic
beauty. Here are some of the most beautiful resorts
in north India and Nainital, a 100 year old city, is
a beautiful settlement situated near a blue-green lake. This
is the Nani
Lake. Close by,
Ramgarh is known for the
luscious quality of its apples. Ranikhet
is a perennial favourite, encircled by snow-peaks and
surrounded by pine forests. Lower, in the foothills,
is the Corbett National Park-
original Kipling country where the tiger reigns the
forest, and little hideouts provide environment for
an enchanting holiday. At the center of Nainital is
Nainilake, a water. The
State Astronomical Observatory
can be reached by foot or pony back, and the views of
the distant plains from here are spectacular. En route
is Hanumangarh, a temple
in picturesque surroundings with pleasant picnic environs.
Another very lovely place for relaxing amidst nature's
bounty is Sanjay park (Manora
Manorum) , a botanical park, or Cheel
Chakkar, a small hillock close to a serpentine
bend on the road, and close to Runsi,
Nainital's horticultural centre, Also interesting
is Gufa
Mahadev,
a cave temple dedicated to Shiva, close to the Sepoydhara
spring. Places to see from high points are Laria
Kanta, Birla Mandir Peak, Snow View, Alma Peak, China
Peak (Naina Peak), Camel's
Back and Handi
Bhandi. At
the little distance from Nainital are other lakes. Sat
Tal. Bhimtal, is
larger than Naini lakes, has a beautiful island and
restaurants. Naukuchiaatal,
is a vast lake, pristinely clean and pleasant. Ramgarh,
is well known for its orchards, and Mukteswar,
is a celebrated scenic spot overlooking the Himalayan
ranges.
