Bharatpur,
Mathura and Vrindavan
Bharatpur
Bharatpur located roughly 60 km from Agra on the Jaipur
highway, the town of highway, the town of bharatpur
was basically a royal hunting retreat. The town
is popularly known as the 'Eastern Gateway' of Rajasthan.
The Bharatpur Palace houses a large number of exhibits
dating back to the early 15th century. Bharatpur,
however is famous for its proximity to the Keoladeo
Ghana National Park
which has the largest concentration and variety of the
birdlife in all of Asia. The nearest airport and
railway head is at Agra.
Mathura
Mathura, situated on the west bank of river Yamuna
is associated with the most revered of Hindu gods- Lord
Krishna. The surroundings, popularly known as 'Brij
Bhoomi', is where Lord Krishna is supposed to have grown
up. In ancient times, Mathura was a renowned cultural
center and received patronage from Emperor Ashoka in
the spheres of sculpture and art. Later, he made the
city the capital of his eastern province and different
dynasties contributed to its prosperity as well.
Vrindavan
Situated 15 km north of Mathura is Virndavan, which
is famous for its association with Lord Krishna, who
spent his childhood days here. The nearest airport is
Agra.
The prominent places here include Govind
Dev Temple, made of red sandstone. Ranji's
Temple,
is an eg. of Rajput architecture. The Jaipur
temple is another marvel of Rajput architecture.
Some other places worth a visit include the 3, Shri
Gopinathji's Temple, Jugal
Kishore Temple, Kalia Dah, Nidhi
Van and Banshivat.
