Kodaikanal Located
at the southern tip of the upper Palanimalai Hill, this
beautiful hill station is one of the very famous tourist
places in south India. Kodaikanal, is situated 2133
meters above the sea level. The railhead for the hill
station is Kodai Road on the Madurai- Tiruchirapalli-
Chennai route. The easiest mode of getting there, however
is by road. The Nearest airport is at Madurai, 120 km.
The center of attraction here is the star-shaped
Lake with greenery all around. The banks offer
many good picnic spots. On the Ghats road to Madurai
are situated the falls known as silver
cascade. It is worth while stopping by. Solar
Physical Laboratory,
situated at the highest point in Kodai, is 3.2km from
the lake. Coaker's Walk
is a pleasant walk in the evening with the plains brushed
with the rosy glow of sunset. For a nominal amount visitors
can become temporary members of the Golf
Club and use the course. Kurinji
Andavar Koli temple is dedicated to Lord Subramaniya.
From here one can enjoy a panoramic view of the northern
plains and the Vaiagi Dam.
The entire Vaigai Dam can be seen from the Green
Valley View. Three boulders called the Pillar
rocks measuring 121mts makes this view
point a unique one. Shenbaganur
Museum, has a good collection of wild animals,
flora and archaeological remains.8 km from Kodai Dolphin
Nose is a flat projected rock offering a good
wide view. The Berijam Peak
is 21km from the Kodai city. This lake is very important
for Kodai city and provides drinking water for
Periyakulam town and near areas. It is also a very good
picnic spot. Perumal Peak
12 km from Kodai, is the highest peak (2400m) in Kodai
Hills. Kukkai Caves is
one of the famous spots and a camping location for trekkers
