Bodhgaya is situated in the southern part of Bihar, India, located on the bank of Falgu River, a tribunary of river Ganga. It is 113 km away from Patna, the capital of Bihar, considered as one of the one of the four holiest places for Buddhist. It is the place where Lord Buddha has got enlightenment around 2500 years ago. The Mauryan emperor Ashoka has constructed some historical Buddhist monuments in Bodhgaya. Major attractions of Bodhgaya-
Mahabodhi temple- It is one of the most sacred temples for Buddhists, prominent attractions of the city. The temple is considered to be constructed by Mauryan Emperor Ashoka, the Great. It is in pyramid shape and height is up to 170v feet. It is the place where Buddha has got enlightenment sitting under the Bodhi tree. The original Bodhi tree is finished but the present one is considered to be the fifth descendant of the original tree. The original red stone still lies at the same place where Lord Buddha used to meditate. The temple has enchanting carved out images of Buddha which an excellent peace of sculpture art. It is included as World heritage site by UNESCO in 2002.
Other monasteries- Bodh Gaya is home to the several other monasteries built and managed by the people of Bhutan, China, Japan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sikkim, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam. These buildings portrays peculiar architectural style, exterior and interior of their respective countries.
The Archeological Museum of Bodhgaya- it is one of the major destinations for the historians and tourists and includes various meditation courses, despite of these attractions, other important visiting sites are Rajgir, Nalanda and Vaishali. |
