Bhubaneshwar
the capital of the state of Orissa, The city is appropriately
dominated by the great temple of Lord Shiva- the Lingaraj
Temple. Though given its importance
as the state capital only some years ago, Bhubaneshwar's
real claim to fame must rest in its temples. There were
around ten thousand temples at one time in the city.
The sprawling and still growing city provides an excellent
insight into the state of Orissa. Bhubaneswar is a city
where the temple spires rise higher than the palms.
History, religion, sea beaches, archaeological sites,
water sports, wildlife and more lie within easy reach
of the city. Bhubaneswar is the base for visiting the
famous Sun Temple at Konark
and the Buddhist circuit of Ratangiri,
Udaygiri and
Lalitgiri, the area which
was a center of Buddhism. Soon, Bhubaneswar may assume
as much importance as an industrial center as a tourism
attraction. The best time to visit is between October
and April. Bhubaneswar is well connected by air to Delhi,
Calcutta, Chennai , Vishkapatnam & Hyderabad. The
airport is just 3km from the city center. Located
on the main Calcutta-Chennai line of the south-eastern
railways, Bhubaneswar is well connected to the rest

A complex which has Emperor Ashoka's rock edicts. Udaygiri
